Q: Tell us a little bit about Love Chic Living:
Love Chic Living is a style and design blog for family homes. It focuses on top tips, ideas and inspirations for creating a stylish family home – it’s inspirational yet achievable.
Q: What made you decide to begin Love Chic Living?
I was running a small part-time business teaching baby sign language to mums as my children were very little when I really got involved in social media. I started a blog to support my business but it wasn’t enough, I needed to indulge my love of home interiors so began blogging about this too. I had some amazing local blogging friends who were doing really well, and with their help, Love Chic Living took off.
Q: Have your tastes and styles changed since you began your blog?
Oh yes, incredibly! Being exposed to styles, designs and new trends every day has really given me access to home interiors I may never have discovered. I love new trends and having the opportunity to try them in my own home through reviews and collaborations has been one of the best things about blogging for me.
Q: Where do you look for inspiration for creating blog posts?
I see what both high street and smaller independent brands are doing and I look at sites like Pinterest and Houzz as well as magazines to see what’s trending and popular. Sometimes I’ll ask my followers on social media what they might like me to cover and recently, I ran a few Wallpaper Wednesday posts looking for particular designs for my Facebook followers.
Q: Can you describe your own home?
It’s a four bedroom Victorian semi, built in 1895, it’s gorgeous but often needs maintenance. It’s a typical messy family home; my two girls love doing their own thing with their space! We recently converted the loft to create the fourth bedroom and en suite, allowing me to move one daughter into a much larger bedroom and freeing up her old room to be my new office. It’s completely changed the way we live in our home.
Q: What’s your interior styling golden rule?
Do what you love. Rules are great to give you guidance but ultimately you need to ensure you’ve given your home a real sense of who you are in your décor choices.
Q: Is your interior style mirrored in other areas of your life?
It probably is actually, particularly in the way I dress. Geometric prints, new trends and statement pieces all feature in my clothes.
Q: Can you give us your top five home styling tips?
- Be brave - if you fancy giving something a go, then do it.
- Add a few quirky pieces for a unique look.
- Try to let a colour or style flow throughout the home, room to room.
- Add a rug - finishing touches like this make the room feel complete.
- Add wall art, collages and displays wherever you can to bring your home to life.
Q: Which is your favourite Houseology brand and why?
Ooh now that is so tricky. I do love Anglepoise though. I have several of their desk and wall lamps and love how they are so recognisable and colourful!
